I think I am enjoying this Intellectual Engagement stuff. They did that really cool presentation of Jen Adam's letter writing, which was great. And then tonight was Joy of Text which was unreal.
Let me tell you about the Susan's, lem.
She read this essay and this poem by her deceased husband and it was incredibly moving....she told all this background and she was talking about how he died of some form of dimensia and they never really diagnosed it, but in this essay he realizes how he is getting sick and he self-diagnoses and she said you know, most of you didn't get to know him, because he was sick when he was here, so i thought it would be nice for you to get to know him a little bit. And the essay was so moving and so sad and then the poem was stunning. it was really amazing. and obviously you saw the end of steve's but the beginning was even better, here was my favorite line (in a steve voice) "...and i was climbing, i felt s tickle in my throat and was thinking god damnit this better not be a cold cause i just got over the last one..". GREAT SHIT. Makes me really love our profs. I like when the faculty present...its like they are our colleagues, not our profs? right?
